Below are the programs and organizations that have been awarded grants thus
far in 2005.
The Children's
Room
This organization provides grief support for children and teens (ages 3
to 17) in the Greater Boston area who have lost a parent or a sibling.
Children are often the "forgotten mourner" and this grant will allow the
children who are on the waiting list to receive grief counseling.

Camp
Dudley
Camp Dudley, located in the
Adirondack Mountains on the shores of Lake Champlain, is the oldest
continuous boy’s camp in the United States. The summer of 2004 will mark
its 120th anniversary, and within the past few years camper
number 20,000 experienced this magical place. Camp Dudley has all the
aspects of a normal summer camp such as athletics, camping and drama, but
emphasis is placed on the moral and ethical development of the boys as
evidenced by the Camp’s motto, “The other fellow first.” The fund will be
sending a Boston area child for one month.

Singers
This high quality training choral program provides comprehensive
music training to children in inner city Boston. By exploring the
world of singing, the children develop strong leadership and teamwork
skills, self-esteem and discipline while enjoying artistic expression.
This
grant will help to expand the current program to a new location for a Dorchester After-School Choral Program.

Starfish
This camp fosters the success and growth of children with emotional,
behavioral and learning problems by providing individualized attention as
part of structured, nurturing and fun group programs. this grant will
send one child to a three week overnight summer session.

Boston
Partners in Educations
The
High School Math and Literacy Initiative matches trained academic
mentors from businesses, colleges and neighborhoods with struggling
Boston Public High School students, enabling the students to build academic
skills and close knowledge gaps.

Child Care
Resource Center
The ABC Learning Groups engage children up to five years old in
critical early literacy activities. The children are accompanied by a
family care provider who learns by watching the leaders work and teach their
children. This program has been a valued resource in the community and
the number of groups have increased to eight groups.

City Stage
We are excited to support
City Stage’s South End After School Performing Art’s Program. This
program is a theater education program serving 60 youths between the ages
of 9 and 18. The youths are from 4 South End public housing communities.
The goal of the program to provide free to most urban children from low income
families with safe, organized, productive activities for after school.
The also offer the opportunity for children to participate in the Arts who
would otherwise not be able to do so.

Sailing
This educational program provides a fun and safe environment that
promotes positive life skills and values through the sport of sailing to
Boston children for no charge. The grant will pay for 2 summer
instructors in training, which is a skill building and jobs program for
teens in Boston.

"E" inc.
Planet Protectors is an urban after-school program for 6 -12 year olds
that combines science education, environmental citizenship, and civic
responsibility. The program has been designed to create an in depth
awareness of an environmental challenge using engaging investigative science
techniques.

Franklin I-0
A Phillips Brooks House Association Project, Franklin I-O
is a
seven week intensive and affordable summer day camp. The
at-risk children participate in creative learning and service
projects to promote academic achievement and self confidence. The camp
is run by college students.

Island Alliance
Island Alliance’s BEAN
(Boston’s Environmental Ambassadors to the National Park Service) is an
after school program for youths ages 14-18 from the Boston area. It is an
environmental internship and mentoring program that is in conjunction with
the new Boston Harbor Islands National Park Area. This program provides a
hands-on approach to teaching the children respect and stewardship for the
harbor and islands by getting them out on the water and on the islands.

Medicine Wheel
Medicine Wheel Productions
brings teenagers from South Boston through the transition from adolescence
to adulthood by involving them in community service public art projects.
Under the guidance of artists and volunteers, the youths participate in
the design and construction, as well as manage the continued development
of the art project.

Outdoor
Explorations
This organization does important work for youth with disabilities.
The goal is to get these children out of the doors and challenge themselves
which gives them an improved self-esteem, and assimilation into the
community as well as an improved way of life. The grant will support the
Youth Empowerment Partnership which provides field days throughout the year
for the children to work and play together.

Parents
Our grant will allow Project Parents
to bring 5 reading parties to a Community Center in Boston. A reading party is Project Parents’ innovative way of
helping to make reading and writing fun by creating a festive
environment to deliver reading games. At every party, each family
attending receives a free book, and prizes are awarded.

New England
Scores
This six week summer camp emphasizes on soccer, creative writing and
theater arts. This grant will be used for the Theater
portion of the program. The campers will have daily workshops
on acting, playwriting, music, dance and theater crafts.

Chameleon Arts
Ensemble
This grant supports the youth concert series. These open concerts, as
well as the instrument demonstrations are a welcoming setting for families
to listen to a wide repertoire of music and to have a dialogue about the
music.

Children's
Services of Roxbury
The Youth and Police in Partnership Program works with at risk 14 - 17
year old children who have witness violence. These tragic experiences
motivate the children to get involved in the community to make a difference.
The Boston Police, Northeastern's Criminal Justice, the Department of Youth
Services, and the Huntington Theater provide a peer leadership job and
training program. In return, these children provide peer support and
training to DYS youth.

Artists Institute
This grant supports the Peace
Drum Project, which uses visual and performing arts to help teens develop
valuable life and social skills while learning how to express themselves.
The after-school teen leadership project serves at-risk Boston Youth and
partner with
a senior citizens from their community. This grant provides
for 10 teen stipends.

Big Brother & Big Sister Association
The Jewish Big Brother & Big Sister
Association plays an
important role in: Helping children and parents who have experienced
loss; Ensuring the continuity of Jewish life for single parent families;
Working with new American families to succeed in an unfamiliar culture;
and Aiding children facing unprecedented complexities and stress in
their lives.

Education Trust
This summer camp program invites children to explore the 250-acre
historic garden cemetery. Throughout the grounds are sculptures,
interesting architecture and many famous people are memorialized. Forest
Hills is a safe haven and a peaceful green space for many urban teens to
ease their thoughts.

Newton South Assistant Girl’s Tennis Coach
Linda
graciously volunteered as assistant coach for eleven years
to ensure the continued success of the
program when the coaching position was cut from the school budget. To
continue her legacy the fund will contribute the cost necessary for a
coach.

Windrush
Farm Therapeutic Equitation
This working horse farm successfully helps physically, emotionally, and
learning disabled child and adults by using the horse to expand the
personal, emotional, and physical boundaries. Each week during the school
year, children living in residential housing in DSS custody have the
opportunity to take care of and ride horses for an hour and a half.
This grant will sponsor half of the cost for a Greater Boston child to
participate.

Zumix
Zumix is a non-profit
organization that provides life skills to youths ages 8-18 from many diverse
backgrounds through the arts. This grant pays for a child to attend
the Adventures in Music program. Music is the main focus, and it is through
learning to play an instrument that youths gain self worth and the
confidence to try other new things that will enrich them for life.

Kid's Karate
Kids' Karate facilitates the development of self-esteem, self-confidence
and self-discipline through top-quality martial arts instruction by highly
skilled and experienced instructors. In addition, the program fosters
the development of courtesy and mutual respect in ethnically diverse and
co-educational classes. Our grant to Kids' Karate will help to sustain
their Roxbury branch.

Noah/O'Donnell
Schoolyard Summer Program
Creating safe, pleasant and fun schoolyard spaces that become a positive
resource for neighborhood children is a goal of Noah. This summer will
be the 9th season of a seven week community based program that
provides free, drop-in educational activities children ages 5 - 12.
Each day 60 - 100 people attend and this serves as their "summer camp".

Arts Council
The Arts Council works
on a grass roots level to create imaginative and resourceful programming
that is accessible to all to the City's residents--with a focus on reaching
youth and families who typically have little access to arts and culture.
This grant supports the Art in a Garden free summer outdoor arts and environmental
program.
